About Sandbox

At Sandbox, we believe that you can’t solve problems without talking to each other.

On the Sandbox App people do exactly that. Each week, we pair people up who don’t see eye to eye on politics to have productive and structured one-on-one conversations.

There are interesting conversations happening across the political divide on the Sandbox app every day. People are expressing their beliefs, hearing new points of view, and taking each other seriously. That’s not to say its without hiccups. But we want to show what’s possible when people take the time to have conversations with people they disagree with.

Sandbox’s mission is to help people that don’t see eye to eye on politics find out what they’re missing.

Sandbox was founded by Libby and Lee Prosch, a father and daughter team based in Chicago, Illinois.

Values & Principles

Putting trust in our users

Good Sandbox conversations will be messy and full of mistakes. People will articulate their ideas poorly and say things they wish they could take back. This is exactly what the platform is for. We will not be shy about reminding our users of the trust we’re putting in them, nor will we be shy about encouraging them to say what they think.

The importance of scar tissue

Users will encounter ideas they find uncomfortable or offensive on our platform, which comes with the territory. The goal is to build a higher level of tolerance for the places where it’s reasonable to disagree, so that it’s possible to address the dangerous stuff.

When tempers flare

We’re walking a thin line here. The last two paragraphs were all about giving the benefit of doubt and tolerance, and we meant it. That said, these are hard conversations about topics people really care about, so overreactions will happen. As long as your partner isn’t being pointlessly combative or trolling, we encourage you to keep going.

Taking each other seriously

Striving to understand other people’s beliefs does not mean giving up your own. We won't compromise our values, and you shouldn't either.

It’s a marathon, not a sprint

Progress will be slow and hard-earned for our subscribers and for us. We're in this for the long haul, and we hope you will be too.

It's an adventure

Having conversations with people you disagree with can feel like a high-wire act. Our job is to provide a safety net. It should be interesting, not ill-fated.
